i2i Optometrists (Newton Mearns) are to offer a Meares Irlen assessment service, starting in January 2009.
This will include a full eye examination and assessment of binocular vision. If glasses are required this will be revealed at this point. Your child would then be assessed using coloured overlays. If there appears to be a further benefit we can then proceed to prescribe specific tinted lenses. We use a Cerium Colourimeter to refine the exact specification required.
Our prinicipal Optometrist has much experience in this field. He also holds a Degree in Optometry and a separate Degree in Orthoptics. This dual qualification allows him to give the best possible service. We believe in the great difference that tinted lenses can make but remain careful to work on other optical causes of reading difficulty such as a need for glasses or eye exercises before advancing to Mearles Irlen assessment.
