Glaucoma

  • Glaucoma is a common Eye Condition where the Optic Nerve, which connects the Eye to the Brain, becomes damaged.
  • It is usually caused by a build-up of pressure within the Eye (intraocular pressure or IOP).
  • Glaucoma can lead to loss of vision if it is not diagnosed and treated.
  • It can affect people of all ages but is more common with age.
  • Glaucoma can be hereditary and regular Eye Examinations are important.
  • In the early stages, Glaucoma usually does not cause any symptoms as it develops slowly over time.  Occasionally, Glaucoma can develop suddenly and cause symptoms such as intense Eye pain, nausea and vomiting, red Eye, Headache, halos around lights and blurred vision.
