Varifocal Lenses

Currently only available to our UK-based customers, Varifocal Lenses are multifocal lenses that correct vision at different working distances. Varifocal Lenses are sometimes referred to as ‘Progressive Lenses'.

Essentially combining the functions of your reading glasses and distance glasses, Varifocals differ from bifocals as they gradually change in prescription. Your lenses will not have visible lines that separate the prescriptions, so they look just the same as single vision lenses.

If you have been wearing single vision lenses then you may experience a short adjustment period when moving to varifocal lenses. Please give yourself some time to adjust as your eye will need to get comfortable with this new lens composition.

How do I Get Varifocal Lenses?

To get your specific varifocal measurements we would require you to take a photograph of you wearing the frames of your choice. This works best when you purchase the frame initially, take your image, then return the frames to us where we will work to fit your prescription lenses.

To take your photograph we will require you to try on your glasses [without removing the tag], ensure they feel comfortable, the arms are positioned correctly on your ears and the bridge sits level on your nose.

Then, take your image!

We suggest you ask a friend to help with this as ‘selfie’ style photographs or those taken in a mirror will not allow us to obtain an accurate measurement. The camera needs to be at least 10 feet [or 3 meters] away and level with your eyes. You can zoom in to get a better image but please ensure you’re wearing your glasses and the photograph includes your whole head and shoulders while you look directly into the camera lens. It is really important that the photograph is well lit, in focus and not blurry. Please ensure we can clearly see your eyes through the lenses - sometimes demo-lenses can create reflection which can obscure your view. If you need an example image then please email us for advice at info@i2ioptometrists.co.uk.

How Much Do Varifocals Cost?

Once you know what brand of lenses you would like, including thickness, prescription and coatings. Let us know and we can assist you in ordering your glasses. Once you receive them - take your image, email it back to us and we will confirm the next steps in your purchase. Please do not return the glasses to us until we have confirmed that we have the correct measurements from your photographs.

Once we have your return we will then complete the payment for lenses and get to work fitting your custom lenses.

Your order can take up to 7-10 working days at our lab - we will stay in contact with you by either phone or email and advise you when your order is ready.

You can find out more about ordering online, choosing your lenses and finding a frame to suit your face.
However, if you have any questions at all about varifocals please get in touch. You can email us at info@i2ioptometrists.co.uk, chat to us on our live chat or call us on: 0141 552 2030.

How Do I Purchase Varifocals Online?

Additional Kodak Lens Features

You can also add some extra features to your lenses to increase the wearability and function of your new glasses:

      • We would recommend the anti-reflection coating, as this will provide a clearer and more scratch resistant surface to the lens.
  • Blue Protection is designed to filter out blue light and offer you a better contrast and visual definition on your day to day adventures. Blue light rays carry some of the highest amounts of energy when compared to other light rays in the visible spectrum, and this has been linked to impact on our internal body clock that controls our sleep cycles.

  • Transition Lenses are suitable for your main pair of glasses as they improve visual performance, blocking UVA, UVB and Blue Light. These lenses are a great solution in all light conditions and all age groups. Whether you spend a lot of time on the road, using screens and technology, or leading an active lifestyle outdoors, Transitions™ offer a clear vision.

  • Transition XTRActive lenses are extra dark outdoors, these lenses block 100% of UV light and help protect against blue light indoors, outdoors and while driving. These lenses come in three colours: grey, brown and graphite green and can feature silver, blue or gold mirror gradients.

  • Kodak’s Polarised Sunglasses help prevent sun exposure through reducing the glare bouncing off water, pavements and roads. If you suffer from light sensitivity this is a great option for your eyewear.
